Memorials

                   

Ormiston has two War Memorials, one situated outside the Miner's Institute and the other outside the Parish Church.

The Memorial at the Church honours the men from the parish of Ormiston who were killed fighting in The Great War 1914 - 1918 (First World War) and bears the inscription:-

"TO THE GLORY OF GOD & IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918"

"THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE"

The Memorial outside the Miners Institute commemorates those who died in both The First and Second World Wars and bears the inscriptions:-

"THE SACRIFICE OF YOUTH"

"IN HONOUR AND EVERLASTING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THE PARISH OF ORMISTON WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR GOD AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918"

On either side of the main plaque two smaller plaques were added with names of the men who died during the Second World War 1939-1945.
